Event #1: A Visit to SEAMEO RETRAC, Vietnam
During the 2004 mid-year school vacation, two members of the Singapore RELC Alumni,
Mrs Cecilia Kong and Mdm Gurmeet Kaur embarked on a visit to SEAMEO RETRAC,
Ho Chi Min City, from 20 - 24 June.
They visited Ho Chi Min City with the purpose of fostering closer ties and understanding
with the Vietnam RELC Club members through the sharing of English Language teaching strategies.
A workshop was specially organised by the Vietnam RELC Club for about 30 of its members.
Our Vietnamese participants found the session both enriching and beneficial.
Mrs Cecilia Kong conducted a workshop on how Thinking Maps are being used in the teaching
of English in Coral Primary School while Mdm Gurmeet showed how Writing can be achieved
through Reading in Bukit View Primary School.
This is the first time that the Singapore RELC Alumni has organised such a stint,
and it has proved to be such a great success that it plans to organise similar ventures
for its members to exchange more ideas and share their expertise with members of the
RELC Alumni of other SEAMEO countries in the near future.
